I sit on the balcony outside our hotel room and take a moment to absorb the beauty of the surroundings. It’s taken us a 2.5 hour flight from Calcutta to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, an 8 hour wait at the airport, a 4 hour bus ride to Ao Sapparot Ferry Pier, an hour on the ferry, and a half-hour cab drive to reach our destination: Chokdee Resort, Kai Bae Beach, Koh Chang.
I’m exhausted and sleep deprived. But in that moment, the calming sound of waves splashing along the shoreline coupled with the picturesque lush green mountains ahead, make me forget all exertions of the journey. I take a deep breath of fresh air. My senses are heightened. The leaves of trees dance in the gentle breeze as if to encourage the chirping of the birds. The weather is perfect – about 20 degrees centigrade. I feel free!
The magical islands of Thailand have never failed to impress (this is our 5th visit to Thailand). The possibilities are numerous and we can’t wait to get started.
